About Our Program

·              We do not creep-feed calves. Period!  We harvest low-cost grass.

·              We select for high weaning weight, low to moderate birth weight, and moderate milk (too much milk requires too much feed to breed back early).

·              We performance test the bulls in standardized, high-roughage feeding trials and cull again.

·              We use embryo transfer to get more calves from our better cows and add new genetics to our herd.

·              Angus carcasses are tender, readily grade choice, and Angus-sired feeder calves bring a 3-5˘/lb premium.  A load of herdmate steers to previous year’s bulls sold on the grid; 39 of 40 qualified for premium carcasses, and earned an average $70 premium over sales on a live weight basis!

·              Bulls have been selected on pedigree, conformation, weaning weight, yearling weight, and semen quality, and pedigrees are clean for carrier status of curly calf, fawn calf and hydrocephalus.

·              All calves sired by these bulls will be polled; all bulls are PAP tested.

About EPDs (expected progeny differences)

·                     EPDs are no substitute for evaluation of animals for structural soundness or for the reputation of the seller.

·                     However, EPDs are the best scientific measure of how an animal’s progeny will perform, and often, the single most useful tool for improving cattle.  EPDs incorporate information on adjusted weights and are up to 9 times more accurate than ratios.
